• General area information (city/neighborhood level)
• NOT your exact address or precise coordinates
How we protect your location:
• Location data is only collected when the App is in use
• Your exact location is never shared with other users
• Only general area information is used for activity matching
• You can disable location tracking at any time through your device's settings or in-app preferences
• All location data is automatically deleted after 30 days
• Location sharing is completely optional and under your control
6. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data, including:
• Encryption of sensitive data in transit and at rest
• Regular security assessments and audits
• Access controls and authentication requirements
• Employee training on data security practices
However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as necessary to provide you with the services and for the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy. Specifically:
• Account information is retained as long as your account is active
• Location data is retained for 30 days maximum
• Message content is retained until deleted by users or account termination

Users between 13-18 are encouraged to use the App with parental guidance and supervision, especially for in-person activities.

By using the Chime In app ("the App"), you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree with these Terms, do not use the App.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the App, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms and all applicable laws and regulations. If you disagree with any part of these Terms, you must not use the App.
2. App Purpose and Safety
Chime In is designed to help users find and participate in legitimate social activities, hobbies, and community events such as sports, study groups, fitness activities, and shared interests. The App is NOT intended for dating, romantic connections, or meeting strangers without proper safety precautions.
Safety Guidelines:
• Always meet in public, well-lit locations
• Inform a trusted friend or family member of your plans
• Trust your instincts - if something feels unsafe, leave immediately
• Report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior immediately
• Users under 18 should have parental supervision for in-person meetings
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age to use the App. If you are under 18 years of age, you represent that you have your parent's or legal guardian's permission to use the App and understand the safety guidelines above. Users under the age of 13 are not permitted to use the App in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
4. User Responsibilities
You agree to use the App only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You will not engage in any activities that violate local, state, national, or international laws, including but not limited to:
• Uploading or sharing inappropriate, harmful, or illegal content
• Using the App for romantic or dating purposes
• Violating intellectual property rights of others
• Attempting to gain unauthorized access to any part of the App or its servers
• Harassing, intimidating, or bullying other users
• Creating false identities or impersonating others
• Using the App for commercial solicitation without our express consent
• Engaging in any activity that could endanger personal safety

8. User-Generated Content
The App allows you to upload content related to activities and interests, including but not limited to images, text, and other materials. By submitting content to the App, you:
• Grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, modify, and display the content for the purposes of providing the App's services
• Represent that you own or have the necessary rights to the content you upload
• Agree not to upload content that infringes on others' intellectual property rights
• Understand that we reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms
• Agree that all content must be appropriate and relate to legitimate social activities
9. Paid Features
The App may offer in-app purchases or subscription-based services. For such paid features:
• All payment transactions will be processed through your App Store or Google Play account
• You are responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary funds for the transaction
• Subscription renewals occur automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
• Refund policies are governed by the respective app store's terms
10. Intellectual Property
The App and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by Chime In and are protected by international copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, and other intellectual property laws.
11. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account and access to the App at any time for violations of these Terms, illegal activity, or other breaches of our policies. Upon termination:
• Your right to use the App will immediately cease
• We may delete or retain your data as required by law
• Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall remain in effect
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
• We are not responsible for any damage or loss incurred as a result of using the App, including but not limited to data loss, errors, or interruptions in service
• The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied
• We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
• We are not responsible for the actions of other users or outcomes of in-person meetings
13. Dispute Resolution
Before filing a claim against Chime In, you agree to attempt to resolve the dispute informally by contacting us at [email protected]. If the dispute cannot be resolved informally:
• Both parties agree to resolve any claims relating to these Terms through final and binding arbitration
• The arbitration will be conducted in Chicago, Illinois
• Either party may opt out of arbitration for disputes qualifying for small claims court
14. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of significant changes through an in-app notification or email. Your continued use of the App after such modifications constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the state of Illinois, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes not subject to arbitration will be resolved in the courts located in Chicago, Illinois.
